PENOBSCOT RIVER CORRIDOR CANOE TRIPS
A
perfect waterway for a family or group
wilderness canoe trip, the Penobscot River Corridor offers much in the way
of scenery, well kept campsites, and plenty of wilderness settings.
A great way for
vacationers and all outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy the wilds of Maine.
We offer trips
from 3-7 days, and up to 40 miles, from the Penobscot Farm put in, down the scenic West
Branch of the Penobscot River and down beautiful Chesuncook Lake
(optional nights on Lobster Lake are possible), and 3 night trips to
beautiful Lobster Lake are well worth the effort.
On each of these
canoe trips, we'll spend some time
visiting the famous Chesuncook Village, the only village in Maine
that is accessible only by plane, boat or snowmobile.
The village is home to just a handful of year-round residents. One
of them is Jack Murphy who operates Chesuncook’s only store.
He sells only a few items in the store, but a day trip to Jack's for
homemade root beer or a root beer float is always a very pleasant &
refreshing part of
our trip.
Each of these trips covers a portion of the journey that Henry David Thoreau took during
one of his trips "To the Maine Woods". Wildlife sightings are common
and the views of Maine's Katahdin, in the distance from Chesuncook Lake,
are striking.
Mostly a flat water canoe trip, the river
portion of our trip on the famous West
Branch of the Penobscot River, offers plenty of current for beginning
canoeists to learn paddle strokes, and test their skills on a wild Maine
river. The lakes portion of our trip is down Chesuncook Lake, the
third largest lake in Maine, and offers great views of Maine's highest
peak, Katahdin.
Campsites each night will be riverside or
on the very scenic Chesuncook & Lobster Lakes. Each day there will be plenty of time for relaxing,
swimming, fishing, or moose watching.
