WEST BRANCH OF THE PENOBSCOT RIVER, LOBSTER & CHESUNCOOK LAKES CANOE TRIP
(Lobster Trip to Chesuncook Dam)

A perfect week long family or group wilderness canoeing experience in Maine, the West Branch of the Penobscot River and Chesuncook Lake canoe trip is a great way for vacationers and all outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy the wilds of Maine.

On our 6 night/7 day trip we'll paddle approximately 50 miles from Lobster Lake to Chesuncook Dam.  We'll spend 1 night on Lobster Lake, 1 -2 nights on the river, and 3 nights on Chesuncook Lake.  On the last morning we'll take out at Chesuncook Dam.

We'll also spend some time visiting the famous Chesuncook Village, the only village in Maine that is accessible only by plane, boat or snowmobile.  The village is home to just a handful of year-round residents. One of them is Jack Murphy who operates Chesuncook’s only store.  He sells only a few items in the store, but a day trip to Jack's for homemade root beer or a root beer float is always a pleasant part of our trip.

This 6 night canoe trip includes an additional night, the first night being spent at the beautiful  Lobster Lake.  The views of Big Spencer Mountain, and the sandy beach campsites, make for a wonderful and scenic first night of your trip.

The trip covers a portion of the journey that Henry David Thoreau took during one of his trips "To the Maine Woods".  Wildlife sightings are common and the views of Maine's Katahdin, in the distance from Chesuncook Lake, are striking.

Mostly a flat water canoe trip, the river portion of our trip on the famous West Branch of the Penobscot River, offers plenty of current for beginning canoeists to learn paddle strokes, and test their skills on a wild Maine river.  The lakes portion of our trip is down Chesuncook Lake, the third largest lake in Maine, and offers great views of Maine's highest peak, Katahdin.

.  Campsites each night will be riverside or on the very scenic Chesuncook Lake.  Each day there will be plenty of time for relaxing, swimming, fishing, or moose watching.
